I started this one a bit differently. I thinly painted some transparent red oxide onto the white gessoed surface of the board, and then started painting the background and apple. The reddish color shows through and is mixed in here and there and I liked the effect.
It was difficult to get the colors right in the photograph. The background is such a beautiful soft gray, greenish.. bluish... lovely mix. The same thing with the table top, it's very white, with small flecks of subtle color.
